Amyris is building an integrated renewable products company by applying industrial synthetic biology to genetically modify microorganisms to serve as living factories. Amyris designs these microorganisms to produce defined molecules for use as renewable chemicals and transportation fuels. Amyris Brasil S.A., a subsidiary of Amyris, oversees the establishment and expansion of Amyris's production in Brazil, including SMA Indústria Química S.A., its joint venture with São Martinho. In addition, Amyris is building fuels distribution capabilities in the United States through its subsidiary, Amyris Fuels LLC.

This month ATEL Ventures, Inc. (“AVI”) portfolio company Amyris announced a multi-million dollar agreement with an undisclosed global food supplier as well as the successful launch of their first product Muck Daddy™. Amyris develops sustainable plant based materials that have broad spectrum consumer product applications. Although Amyris is unable to discuss the details, the agreement includes a long-term value share provision for the company’s future products.
CEO John Melo notes the continued momentum of the company’s products is exciting. “This agreement adds to our current portfolio of collaboration partners and our growing portfolio of over 20 products that are under agreement with more than 10 partners. Collaborations continue to fund our direct research and development costs and provides strong product revenue growth.”
Their first product, Muck Daddy™, shipped over 3,000 units in pre-launch sales. The high performance hand cleaner exemplifies the versatility of Amyris’s sustainably produced product which converts cane sugars into hydrocarbon molecules.
