Dean Cash is Chairman and CEO of ATEL Capital Group, a San Francisco based financial services company that sponsors public and private alternative investment programs for individual and institutional investors. ATEL’s programs provide investors an opportunity to participate in the dynamic $1 trillion US equipment leasing industry. In addition, Mr. Cash owns a controlling interest in Hawaiian Building Maintenance, the largest Honolulu based building services company with approximately 700 employees.
Mr. Cash earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and math and an MBA from Florida State University. He is a member of the Florida State University Foundation’s Board of Trustees and a supporter of the College of Business, where he established a professorship in the Department of Finance, as well as The Cash Lecture Hall in Legacy Hall, the new college of business building.
Mr. Cash began at ATEL Capital Group in 1981 as the director of marketing and, within two years, became its executive vice president and a director. In 2001, he purchased a majority interest in ATEL and became its Chairman and CEO. Under his leadership, ATEL has become a multi-billion dollar financial services company providing equipment leasing to Fortune 1000 U.S. corporations. Before joining ATEL, Mr. Cash began his career as a systems engineer with Electronic Data Systems (EDS). He later worked for General Electric Corporation, installing computerized patient records systems around North America and later sold computer services for GE’s GEISCO division.
Mr. Cash serves on the board of directors of the Gangagen Corporation, a biotech company researching new treatments for antibiotic-resistant MRSA bacteria. He is also active within the nonprofit community of San Francisco, where he serves on the Board of Governors of the San Francisco Symphony. In the spring of 2015, Mr. Cash was inducted into the Florida State University College of Business Hall of Fame where he was recognized for his professional accomplishments and community contributions (Hall of Fame video).
He and his wife Eliza established the ATEL Foundation in 2012, a private philanthropic organization dedicated to providing funding to organizations that seek to better the lives of citizens in their respective communities.
